Overlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Pukaki and with views north to Aoraki/ Mt Cook, this lodge required a subtle interior design scheme that would stand as a conductor to the views beyond.

For the lodge owners, the requirements were twofold, as half of the lodge would be their private home while the other would be used for hosting guests. As reasonably practical people, they were looking for spaces that were highly usable as well as aesthetically pleasing.

The lodge was built to withstand the extremes this area is known for. When it came to the interiors, this meant creating spaces that can feel cosy when the lakeshore wind is howling, as well as cool on a hot summer’s day..

I picked out the wall colourings to reflect the surrounding beauty, with lake blue walls in the dining rooms and moodier, dark tones in the ensuite rooms. These guest rooms invite relaxation with luxurious bedding and lush throws and pillows, while bathrooms are sleek, stone-clad spaces with private views over the lake.
