Pisa Moorings - Visitor accommodation

This lakeside development on the edge of Lake Dunstan near Cromwell has the benefit of being surrounded by a plethora of Central Otago colours.

Design adds value faster than it adds costs.

  • Small-scale, high-end visitor accommodation

  • Wheelchair accessibility

  • Textural Central Otago references

In choosing materials and themes, I drew upon the work of British Potter and ceramicist Kyra Cane, whose fabrics and wallpapers perfectly reflect the tones and textures of the landscape.

While this was just a small residential unit, the restrictions set by the District Council meant that the kitchen and bathroom were required to be fully wheelchair accessible – and rightfully so. However, achieving this within a small footprint did involve some careful spatial planning.

The finished result is a high end guest accommodation unit, which gives a feeling of immense comfort and relaxation.
