Vault On George Timaru

My passion for industrial design came into play with this conversion project, which saw a former BNZ bank transformed into a downtown apartment.

No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist.

  • Commercial heritage building conversion

  • Contemporary loft-style living

  • Exposed concrete ceilings

  • Modern, industrial aesthetic

Through consultation with the client, including the creation of a comprehensive mood board, I was able to form a full picture of his intended style. This was used to create a bespoke design that met his lifestyle and aesthetic.

Marrying form and function and paying respect to the history of the building, we retained and exposed the concrete ceilings, bank vaults and ducting. This gave the space a modern, industrial edge, which was reinforced by a poured concrete kitchen island and barn-style doors.

In the main entrance, the vault concept was echoed through a steel plate wallpaper. To hint at the interior style beyond, the front entrance was adorned in Corten steel framing, completing the look from the outside in.
